In the first edition of this book, the topics and annotated books were selected in response to the most frequently made, not-too-well defined requests librarians fielded from children. Now, Carroll and Meacham have assembled a thorough revision of this work. The updated listing adds current favourites to standard classics. Nearly three quarters of the subject areas are new and a number of new titles have been added. As with the first edition, librarians surveyed were asked to name the most common subject requests they received from children. Both fiction and non-fiction are listed and new subject categories include books that are "skinny" and "gross", books on how to save the Earth, and books where kids eat something "icky". The book identifies the often specific and somewhat unorthodox subject area interests of younger patrons. The annotations are brief, making the book a useful tool for children who might wish to peruse it. For children's librarians in public and elementary school libraries, parents and teachers, this revised edition provides helpful guidance.
