Uli, a young stone artist raised by priests, is sent out to find his way in the city of Thebes, Egypt, in 1166 BCE. Just as he begins to understand his good standing on the social ladder, he is transferred to work in the tombs in the western desert. Here he encounters deplorable working conditions, corruption, and thievery. Uli struggles to understand how his devotion to the gods will lead him to an honest and dignified life. He leads a workers’ strike at the tombs, is captured by Assyrian tribesmen and enslaved, and intercepts an assassination attempt on Pharaoh Rameses III. In a quest for belonging, Uli strives to promote faith in the gods and devotion to the Pharaoh against the background of a crumbling society.THE FEATHER OF TRUTH is based on actual historical events.
