Intended for students in advanced college-level courses, this textbook emphasizes the study of the French language and French literature from the Renaissance to the modern era, the majority being 19th- and 20th-century authors. Each text should be able to be used to produce an "explication de texte", or can be the point of departure for an original essay. There are also a few composition topics, as well as a series of systematic exercises covering the more difficult points of French grammar.
